Why purchase SSL certificates from Certification Authorities?

For SSL certificate to be recognized by browsers as trusted it has to be issued by Certificate Authority(CA). CAs are the companies that have right to issue digital certificates. Certificate Authority not only generates certificates, it also verifies identity and legitimacy of company or individual that request certificates.
